OXFORD, Ala. — It was a short and sweet stay at the 2024 NJCAA Division I Women’s Junior College World Series for former Webbers Falls softball player Brooke Wyatt and the Connors State College Cowgirls as they lost both of their games to be eliminated from the tournament and see their season end.
The Cowgirls lost 8-0 to Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College on May 20, then fell 9-0 to Iowa Western on Tuesday in what proved to be their season finale.
In the loss to Hutchinson Community College, the Cowgirls (3914) were two-hit, with those being a triple by Jaydn Muns and a single by Layne Sloan.
The Blue Dragons scored twice in the first inning for a 2-0 lead, then broke open the game with a five-run second inning for a 7-0 advantage. A run in the fifth inning put the game into run-rule status.
Wyatt (22-7) suffered the loss, going three innings with a strikeout. Alyssa Opgenorth went the rest of the way with a strikeout.
In Tuesday’s seasonending loss to Iowa Western, the Cowgirls were four-hit by Iowa Western’s pitcher as Muns, Haley Seawright, Lexi Cramp and Lynzi Kelley all singled.
Iowa Western broke a scoreless tie with a single run in the second inning for a 1-0 lead, but put the game into run-rule status with a pair of fourrun innings in the third and fourth innings.
Wyatt (22-7) took the loss, going the first three innings. Alyssa Opgenorth went the rest of the way.
