An arrest warrant has been issued for a Gore man after sheriff ’s investigators found that he had allegedly taken parts from an air conditioner unit north of Vian.
James A. Young, 54, was charged on May 30 in Sequoyah County District Court with felony grand larceny and a warrant was issued for his arrest the same day, according to court records.
Sequoyah County Sheriff investigator Steven Jenkins reported on May 13 that he was dispatched to a residence being remodeled on Moonshine Road. The reporting party told Jenkins that an A/C unit outside of the residence was allegedly stripped of materials and provided a photo. He said the residence was recently remodeled and estimated the damage to be around $4,300.
Jenkins and Investigator Brian Rutherford went to a residence on May 23 near where the alleged theft happened and were able to identify Young as a suspect. It was determined that Young had sold parts and scrap that in- cluded aluminum reefers, aluminum radiators, coppers, and yellow brass solids for $172.05 to Yaffe Iron & Metal Corp. in Fort Smith, Ark.
After being confronted about the A/C unit, Young reportedly denied taking it but then admitted to taking the parts and selling them for money, according to the probable cause affidavit filed in the case.
A warrant request was then sent to the District Attorney’s office.
District Attorney Jack Thorp said if found guilty of the crime, Young could face imprisonment in the State Penitentiary for not more than two years or in the county jail not to exceed one year, by a fine not to exceed $1,000, or both fine, imprisonment and restitution.
