Who is the Lord
commentary, Devotional

Who is the Lord
By Pastor Michael Martin,

“Who is the Lord, that I should obey Him and let Israel go? I do not know the Lord and I will not let Israel go” Exodus 5:2 In ancient times a nations gods were credited with its successes. The more powerful the nation, the greater its gods seemed to be. But in these chapters the God of Israelite slaves—our God!—is shown to be far more powerful than the gods of the greatest nation then on earth. This is a history lesson, but the question is valid today…Who is the Lord, that I should obey him? If you do not believe the Word of God, The Bible, then you can rightly ask that question because you have no idea who God is. Pharaoh didn’t know God at that time, nor did the Israelites really. He was someone vaguely  in their past that the very old Israelites talked about like He was a real person, yet they had never seen or felt His power.

During this time, they were not allowed to worship anything other than the gods of Egypt. There was a multitude of gods in Egypt at that time. There were 9 main Gods of Egypt in this period of time: Atum, Shu, Tefnut, Geb, Nut, Osiris, Isis, Seth, and Nephthys. Each had its prescribed form of worship. Basically, you could chose what or who you were to worship, much like today.

Today there is no absolute form of worship to a singular god. The Bible speaks of the god of this world. 2Corinthians 4:4 “In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”

Notice that this particular god wants to blind the minds of anyone that might actually want to find and serve the God of the Bible? To do this, the god of this world gives you lots and lots of choices. You, in turn, look for one that makes you comfortable. When you find one where you are comfortable, you settle in to worship that god just like they did thousands of years ago in Egypt.

Oh, you think you are worshiping the god of the Bible? You probably are because there are 35 false gods mentioned by name in the Bible. There is the clue to whether you are worshiping a false god, no matter what your religion claims his name to be: 1. In this New Testament time, your religion must center around Jesus Christ and Him crucified, buried and risen again. That is the gospel message found in ICorinthians 15:3-4 “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:” 2. Your religion must acknowledge that Jesus is the only way for you to be saved. a. John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” b. Acts 4:12 “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

3. Your religion must acknowledge the Bible as the inerrant Word of God. a. John 17:17 “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” b. John 15:3 “Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.”

4. If your preacher is guilty of correcting the Word of God, if he uses the words, ‘this is a poor translation or ‘this should say then you are in the wrong church no matter what the religions is. The preacher is not qualified to correct God and the Bible is a preserved book of scripture. The God who spoke the world into existence can keep men from messing up His Words written to them.

So I ask again and you will need to answer this question, if not today, then in the future: “Who is this LORD that I must serve him?” You will need to make that decision on your own. No one can make it for you. The Bible tells us salvation is offered to whosoever will ask for it, but you cannot ask for another and another cannot ask for you.

Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Not sure if you are serving the right god? We can help. Come visit some Sunday morning and I will sit down with you and explain the scriptures about how you can KNOW you have eternal life, ljohn 5:13 “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”
