The Gore Lady Pirates, who were 9-18 last fall, are returning six starters for this new fast-pitch softball season, which will begin at 4:30 p.m. Monday with a road three-way at Wilson (Henryetta) with Graham-Dustin.
The lone returning starter is infielder Ricki Huckbay (who hit .371 last fall to lead the team), who will join junior infielder Emily Daily (.346), junior outfielder Kennedy Williams (.256) and junior pitcher Cheyenne Davidson (.335).
Sophomore infielder River Shoemake (.286) and sophomore outfielder Sophie O’Connor (.356) round out the returning starters for second-year coach Michael Randolph. Senior outfielder Peyton Curran and freshman infielder Mylee Bruce also are expected to see a lot of time in the starting line-up.
Hallie Brewer, Keira Rowe, Taryn Trennepohl, Victoria Scott, Evelette Cearley and Maddison Douglass round out the roster.
“We have several returning starters coming back for us this season,” Randolph said. “This team has a great group of girls that can really swing the bat. I have multiple girls with a lot of speed that are very smart on the bases. I expect this year to be a winning season, and these girls are ready to come out and compete.
