Thanks to five starters returning from the 2023 team that went 24-9 and made it to the Class 2A Super Regional last fall, the Vian Lady Wolverines should be competitive this 2024 campaign, which after the opening week of the season sees them sitting at 1-4.
Returning are senior pitcher Kala Gibbins (who hit .400 last season), senior outfielder Rebel Simon (.290), junior first baseman Hanna Mattingly (.510), junior third baseman Rayleigh Terrill (.300) and junior shortstop Halli Russell (.350).
Rounding out the roster are Eden Girty, Kaidence Roark, Lakoeta Cheater, Tina Rautenberg, Sidney Cox, Scarlett Fields, Cassidee Postoak, Tressa Sandlin, Shelbie Glass, Boxtym Rodgers, Aubrey Craighead, Emry Smith and Eden Gilbert.
“We will be competitive as we return five starters from last year that are good players, but they are in new spots,” Vian second-year coach John Mays said. “We’re going to need some freshmen and sophomores to step up and help.”
