Oklahoma Game Wardens are reportedly cracking down on anglers who are taking more than their limit of fish.
State game wardens said a few weeks ago, Sequoyah County Game Warden Jerry Henry received a report from concerned anglers on the Illinois River that two fishermen were over their limit on trout.
The anglers alleged that they had watched the two individuals bag the fish into plastic sacks, and then put them in a carry pack.
When wardens arrived at the river, they located the two individuals matching the description of the two fishermen, and found them to be in possession of 20 trout. According to reports, anglers can only possess six trout per day, putting them 14 trout over their combined daily limit. Multiple citations were then issued to both individuals.“ Thank you to those anglers who made the call to report the violations, helping protect the resources and wildlife,” Henry said. “Wardens across the state rely heavily on the public for information to help protect our wildlife.”
Henry said if you or someone you know witnesses a violation, especially one in progress, you can report it by calling your local warden or a warden in an adjoining county. Henry can be reached directly at 918-431-2544.
