Vian softball team beats Henryetta, Gore last week
By David Seeley Sports Editor

The Vian Lady Wolverines entered last Friday’s Westville Tournament on a high note as they defeated District 3A-8 rival Henryetta 11-7 on Aug. 26 at Armstrong Park, then turned around 24 hours later and routed county rival Gore 21-5 on Aug. 26.

In the win over Henryetta, the Lady Wolverines (5-5 overall, 3-3 in District 3A-8 play) rallied from a 2-1 second- inning deficit with a four-run second inning, a three-run third inning, a single run in the fourth inning and a two-run fifth inning to take an 11-2 lead after five innings.

The Lady Black Knights tried to mount a late comeback, scoring five runs in the seventh inning but came up short.

For the game, Kala Gibbins was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Hanna Mattingly was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a run batted in, Rayleigh Terrill was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, Cassidee Postoak was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, Eden Girty doubled and scored twice and Rebel Simon tripled with an RBI and a run scored for Vian.

Gibbins (5-5) got the win, striking out four batters in her completegame victory. In the victory over Gore, a three-run opening inning put the Lady Wolverines up 3-0, which became a 9-0 lead by the fourth inning.

The Lady Pirates scored twice in the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 9-2 and a three-run fifth inning trimmed Vian’s lead to 10-5, but that was as close as Gore got.

The Lady Wolverines put the game into runrule status with an 11run sixth inning.

For the contest, Terrill was 6-for-6 with three doubles, six runs batted in and two runs scored, Girty was 3-for-4 with two doubles, four runs scored and three RBIs, Gibbins was 3-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored, Halli Russell was 3-for-5 with a double, four runs scored and an RBI, Scarlett Fields was 3-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs scored, Simon was 2-for-6 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, Postoak doubled and scored once and Lakoeta Cheater doubled with an RBI and a run scored for Vian, which had a whopping 24 hits in the game. All nine starters had at least one hit.

Gibbins got the win as she went all six innings with 15 strikeouts.
