Vian’s Board of Trustees met for its regular monthly meeting on Aug. 19 where they approved the date of October 5 for Vian’s annual Burnin’ Down Main Street, along with Downtown in December, which will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Dec. 12.
The board unanimously accepted the resignations of police officers Lethia McLaughlin, Joseph Herrera and Johnny Turner; and then approved the full-time employment of Officer Robert Johnson and Cody Jackson.
While the trustees took no action on purchasing a 2018 Ford Police Interceptor Explorer from Big Bear Police Vehicles in the amount of $21,000 for the police department, they did approve the purchase of a 2024 Chevrolet 4WD 1500 crew cab truck for the fire department in the amount of $48,961.
All reports for both departments, along with the sanitation, streets and parks report, and former meeting minutes were also all approved by the board members.
A green light was also given to start a release for bids on a new sanitation truck, but the trustees tabled upcoming little league projects.
The board heard from Heather Duham, a representative from Dobson Fiber, who spoke on a proposed target area for possible fiber services to the town before the trustees approved a right-ofway access agreement.
The trustees also approved an agreement for impoundment of animals between the town and the City of Sallisaw, along with an inter-local agreement with Sequoyah County concerning county road and bridge maintenance, and other repairs.
