Gore Lady Pirates see softball season come to an end

The 2024 fast-pitch softball season ended in a not-so-desired way for the Gore Lady Pirates last week.

After losing the regular- season finale 6-1 at Roland on Sept. 23, the postseason parade was a short-and-sweet one for the Lady Pirates as they lost both games in the Class A District Tournament on Wednesday at Porum — 8-4 to the host Porum Lady Panthers and 13-9 to the Porter Consolidated Lady Pirates — to end the season at 14-11.

In the loss to Roland, the Lady Rangers, who trailed 1-0 in the first inning, scored twice in each in the first, fourth and fifth innings for a 6-1 lead.

In defeat, Emily Daily, Ricki Huckbay and River Shoemake each doubled for the Lady Pirates.

Cheyenne Davidson (14-11) took the loss, despite fanning two batters in six innings.

In the district-tournament loss to Porum, the Lady Panthers broke a 1-all tie with a five-run second inning to take a 6-1 lead after two innings.

In defeat, Peyton Curran doubled with a run batted in, while Shoemake hit a solo home run and scored twice for Gore. Davidson suffered the loss.

In the season-ending loss to Porter Consolidated in a battle of Lady Pirates, Porter Consolidated scored nine runs in the first inning for a 9-0 lead which was never relinquished.

Gore cut its deficit to 10-5 after two innings and 13-9 after a threerun seventh inning but got no closer.

In defeat, Shoemake was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI, Huckbay was 2-for-4 with a double and three runs scored, Sophie O’Connor was 2-for-5 with two doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored, Hallie Brewer was 2-for-5 with three RBIs, Daily doubled and Mylee Bruce doubled and scored once for Gore.

Davidson took the loss, despite getting four strikeouts in seven innings. However, five of Porter Consolidated’s runs were unearned due to six Gore errors.
