Dear Editor, On October 17, I traveled to Vian for the football homecoming festivities. The bleachers were full and people lined the fence.
As always, there were also those who love to watch from the end zones. I saw alumni from many, many past years with smiling faces and cheering voices. This did my heart good! Vian football always will be near and dear to me, but this night I shared a lot more than a football game.
It was a sentimental gathering of people who care. This school cares, this community cares, and the alumni care. Vian has quite a reputation as sports’ enthusiasts, but I want to emphasize that that love goes far beyond the results on any scoreboard. That love and support also go to the band and cheerleaders, who practice endless hours to make their school proud. The way all these programs work together is special, and what is really important is the feeling that the kids get from the energy of that crowd.
What is really important to the crowd is the dedication and school spirit those young people show. Because of the tradition of support on so many levels, the programs presented by Vian will always have a following.
I am proud of Vian in so many ways, and that hometown homecoming passion is just another reason a big part of my heart will always be right here.
Thank you Vian, Coach Ray Jordan
