At the regular meeting of the Gore Board of Trustees on Oct. 22, significant decisions were made regarding community safety and upcoming events.
The board welcomed new police officer Robert Rice, approved a contract with Wright-Way Auction Service for an upcoming town auction, and announced upcoming road construction on Haven Heights.
The board members unanimously approved several items, including the minutes from the previous meeting, financial report for September, and approved renewal contracts with both Southwestern Power and CLEAR.
Following a short executive session, the board reconvened and approved Rice’s hiring at a rate of $15 per hour and administered him the police oath. This decision was followed by the most recent reports from the police and fire chiefs, detailing significant activity over the past month, including traffic stops and emergency calls.
The Gore Police Department reported 81 traffic stops for the previous month, 30 calls for service, 12 citations, and six warnings. The Gore Fire Department had a total of 31 calls since the last meeting, which included 20 medical calls, one structure fire, two for community service, two for traffic control, three motor vehicle accidents, two brush fires, and one vehicle fire.
It was also announced that as of Sept. 12, the town is now the jurisdiction having au- thority for building, fire and ADA compliance inspections for the community.
Additionally, Town Clerk Lisa Settlemyre announced upcoming road work on Haven Heights beginning on Oct. 28, which is expected to take about a week.
The meeting concluded with discussions on property surplus declarations and water loss management, as the Gore Public Works Authority continues to address service efficiency. Water administrator Jeremy Lane reported an 8 percent water loss, three water leaks, 30 locates, and 31 work orders for the month of September.
