After going 5-18 a season ago and losing their only postseason game to Canadian in the Class A District Tournament, good things are in store to happen for the Gore Lady Pirates in the 2024-25 season.
The Lady Pirates are returning four of their five starters from last year — 5-1 senior guard Ricki Huckbay (five points, 2.3 rebounds a season ago), guards Emily Daily (eight, 3.7) and Rayleigh Moore (four, 4.4) and sophomore post player River Shoemake (five, five). Daily was among the top 100 high school girls basketball players to watch this season for “VYPE” Magazine.
Rounding out the roster are 5-3 senior Lily Wooten, 5-8 sophomore Kennedy Williams, 5-8 sophomore Chandra Carter, 5-7 sophomore Sophie O’Connor and 5-3 freshman Hallie Brewer.
“We will be fast and able to shoot well,” said Gore girls coach Staci Simeroth, entering her fourth season as coach. “We play as a team and are unselfish.”
Simeroth said her team’s strengths will be quickness and toughness as any of the five players on the court at the time can score.
“I believe all five girls (on the court at any one time) make the best player on the floor,” Simeroth said. “We run as one (team).”
