On October 27th, Garrett Lane, a Cherokee Native from Keys High School, and Maison Pool from Mulhall- Orlando High School, claimed first place in the 2024 Oklahoma High School Fishing Tournament on Oct. 27 at Lake of the Arbuckles near Sulphur.
The duo encountered an unexpected challenge right from the start when Lane was accidentally hooked by his partner. Despite the injury, Lane chose to press on, as the team’s boat captain was unable to remove the hook. With resilience and determination, the two anglers went on to catch five fish, with a total weight of 12.9 pounds, including a Big Bass that tipped the scales at 6.3 pounds. After the tournament, Lane was taken to the hospital to have the hook safely removed from his arm.
Lane is the son of Candace and Marshall Lane of Park Hill and the grandson of Dan and Becky Carter of Gore and Ann Lane and the late Mike Lane of Gore.
The boys would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to their family and friends, fishing coach Josh Haggard, Keys High School, Cherokee Nation Tribal Councilor Lisa Hall, Cherokee Nation and all the sponsors for their unwavering support throughout the season.
