Graveside service for George McCoy, 81, of Sallisaw, was held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2024, at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Ark. under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.
Mr. McCoy was born on March 26, 1943, in Tahlequah, to Ada (Fixin) McCoy and Lee McCoy. He died on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2024, in Sallisaw.
He was a tribal member of The United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians. After completing his education at Marble City, he went on to Sallisaw High School, but finished his senior year at Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Kan. He joined the U.S. Army and served his country in Vietnam. He was employed at Whirlpool in Fort Smith, Ark. and later on, the Kansas City Southern Railroad.
Survivors are his companion, Joyce Ann Wells of the home; two sons, Tim McCoy and Jackie of Stilwell and James McCoy; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Calvin Lee Mc-Coy of Tahlequah and Marvin McCoy of Marble City; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Melvin T. McCoy; and one nephew, Keith McCoy.
