Memorial service for Johnny T. Cooper, 94, of Sallisaw, formerly of Poteau, was held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2024, at Southside Baptist Church in Poteau, under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.
Mr. Cooper was born on Feb. 13, 1930, to Stella and Nelson Cooper and died on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2024.
He served as a medic in the U.S. Army and dedicated two decades to the Retail Clerks Organization in California. After his retirement, he remained involved with Southside Baptist Church, where he was a longtime member.
Survivors are his wife, Janet; daughter, Linda Wellmerling of Arizona; step-daughters, Denise Carshall of Poteau and Pamela Kemper of Tennessee; step-sons, Bill Blakeslee of California and Garrett Gilkerson of Sallisaw; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Harold “Smokey” and Joe.
