One of college football’s richest traditions took place Saturday afternoon at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Md., when Army (11-1) met Navy (8-3) for the Commander-in-Chief ’s Trophy as the best military football team of the 2024 college football season.
The 125th meeting between the two armed services schools had some Gore interest in it, not so much for the game itself but for those in attendance.
Former Gore High School state champion cross country and track runners Ty Bliss and Hallie Kinion did their alma mater just fine when they were wearing green and black, both getting to run at the same meet for several years before graduating.
Now, as Hallie’s father Troy mentioned, Bliss and Kinion were “mortal enemies” as Bliss is a cadet and Kinion is a midshipman.
Both represented Gore High School as they were among their respective group of fellow servicemen and servicewomen marching onto the field for their respective branch of the military’s team prior to Saturday afternoon’s game kicking off.
