Gore hoopsters split games with Arkoma, Savanna

The Gore High School basketball teams ended the pre-Christmas Break portion of their seasons by splitting home Riverside Conference games against Arkoma on Dec. 10 at Gore Event Center, then split road games Thursday night at Savanna. In each case, the Pirates prevailed, while the Lady Pirates suffered two heartbreaking losses.

On Dec. 10, the Pirates routed the Arkoma Mustangs 85-23, but the Lady Mustangs nipped the Lady Pirates 25-24.

On Thursday night, the Pirates edged the Savanna Bulldogs 64-62, but the Lady ’Dawgs got past the Lady Pirates 4439.

In the boys’ win over Arkoma, the Pirates (4-2 overall, 2-0 in Riverside Conference play) put away the game early, jumping to a 20-3 lead after a period and never looking back.

For the game, Tate Brooksher scored a game-high 23 points and Eli Munson added 20 points to lead Gore, followed by Cain Cooper with 14 points, Duane Hunt with eight points, Keeton Rowe with seven points, Benson Hunt with six points, Ayden Cox, Nash Thouvenel and Logan Markou with two points each and Cruz Ward with a free throw.

In the boys’ victory over Savanna, the Pirates rallied from a 4441 third-quarter deficit by outscoring the ’Dogs 23-18 in the final period.

For the game, Brooksher scored a seasonhigh and a game-high 32 points to lead Gore, followed by Cooper with 16 points, Munson with 11 points, Hunt with four points and Rowe with a free throw.

In the girls’ loss to Arkoma, the Lady Mustangs rallied from a 4-3 opening-period deficit by outscoring the Lady Pirates 22-20 over the final three quarters to snatch away the win from the jaws of defeat.

In defeat, Kennedy Williams led the Lady Pirates (1-5 overall, 0-2 in Riverside Conference play) with eight points, followed by Emily Daily with seven points, Ricki Huckbay with five points and Rayleigh Moore with four points.

In the girls’ loss to Savanna, the Lady ’Dawgs rallied from a 33-25 third-quarter deficit by outscoring the Lady Pirates 19-6 in the fourth period to get the comefrom- behind win. In defeat, Williams led Gore with 12 points, followed by Daily with nine points, Moore with eight points, Huckbay with seven points and River Shoemake with three points.
