The Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings wrestling team celebrated Sophomore Day with a 38-16 victory over the Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa Lady Mavericks on Saturday afternoon at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse on the CASC-Poteau campus.
All total, 15 Lady Vikings sophomores, including former Vian Lady Wolverine wrestler Taya Hunt, were recognized, in which all of them received a plaque.
Hunt’s match itself did not go her way as she was pinned in 2:38 by NOC-Tonkawa’s Miah Kenny in the 145-pound match.
However, only one other match did the Lady Mavericks pick up, that coming in the 124-pound match when Madison Roe was pinned in 2:51 by NOCTonkawa’s Carla West.
Of the other nine matches, all were won by the Lady Vikings (21).
Of those nine matches, six of them were won by pinfalls — Kaylee Campbell at 117 pounds (2:02), Sam Markwardt at 131 (58 seconds), Alondra Valles at 138 (1:44), Emma Thompson at 160 (2:32), Izzy Pack at 180 (1:56) and Gabby Watson at heavyweight (2:56).
Calli Connolly (103 pounds) and Abigail Butts (110) each won by technical falls, while Stacey Nash won by forfeit at 207 pounds.
The Lady Vikings will be idle until welcoming the Oklahoma City University Lady Stars at 6 p.m. Jan. 18 at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.
