Webbers Falls girls go 1-2 last week, while Warriors suffer three losses
By David Seeley Sports Editor,

It was a rough week of basketball for the Webbers Falls basketball teams last week.

The only win enjoyed by either squad happened when the Lady Warriors handled the Keota Lady Lions 50-22 for a Riverside Conference win Friday night at Webbers Falls Event Center.

The Lady Warriors opened the week by losing a home conference game 49-26 to the Gore Lady Pirates on Dec. 14, then fell 54-44 to the Kinta Eagles on Thursday night.

It was an even harder week for the Warriors, who lost all three games — 56-38 to the Pirates on Dec. 14, 70-29 to the Eagles on Thursday night and fell 60-53 in overtime to the Lions on Friday night.

In the girls’ win over Keota, the Lady Warriors (7-5 overall, 2-2 in Riverside Conference play) jumped out to a 20-4 lead over the Lady Lions after a quarter and never looked back.

For the game, Bailey Ward scored a gamehigh 25 points to lead Webbers Falls, followed by Madison Smith with seven points, Kailey Mannon and Audri Spears with four points each, Cheyanne Herrier and Bridgette Baer each with three points and Hannah Kay Mason and Paizley Turley with two points apiece.

In the girls’ loss to Gore, the Lady Pirates rallied from an 18-17 halftime deficit by outscoring the Lady Warriors 20-0 in the third quarter to put Gore ahead for good at 38-17 going into the final period.

In defeat, Herrier and Baer each scored nine points to lead Webbers Falls, followed by Spears with six points and Mannon and Turley with a free throw apiece.

In the girls’ loss to Kinta, the Lady Eagles jumped out to a 12-6 lead after a quarter, which became a 25-17 halftime advantage. The Lady Warriors used a 17-11 third period to cut their deficit to 36-34 going into the fourth quar-ter but got no closer.

In defeat, Baer led Webbers Falls with 18 points, followed by Smith with eight points, Herrier with six points, Ward and Abbie Patterson with four points each, River Harrison with three points and Mannon with a free throw.

In the boys’ loss to Gore, the Pirates doubled the Warriors 14-7 in the first quarter en route to a 26-15 halftime lead and a 39-23 advantage after three periods.

In defeat, Thadan Yandell led the Warriors (4-8, 1-3) with 13 points, followed by Luke Pierce and Chevy Cole with eight points each, Brutus Robinson with four points, Gunner Shelby and Cordae Shine each with two points and Elliott Kunkel with a free throw.

In the boys’ loss to Kinta, the Eagles flew out to a 28-12 lead after a period and were never headed.

In defeat, Yandell led Webbers Falls with 11 points, followed by Cole with nine points, Pierce with six points, Kunkel with two points and Shelby with a free throw.

In the loss to Keota, after the Lions rallied in the fourth quarter to knot the game at 50-all at the end of regulation, they completed the come-from-behind win by outscoring the Warriors 10-3 in overtime.

In defeat, Yandell scored 17 points and Cole added 13 points to lead Webbers Falls, followed by Shelby with eight points, Kunkel with six points, Robinson with four points, Eli Hefflin with three points and Pierce with two points.
