Proverbs 9:10 “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.”
Here is a scripture that on the surface sounds odd to me. Fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom. The scripture is saying to obtain wisdom you must first believe in the LORD.
Job was confused it: Job 28:12 “But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of under- ___________ standing?” Job was searching for some was to make sense of the catastrophic events that had happened to him. He was questioning his friends. They were convinced that for tragedy to happen Job had to be a sinner above all men and that God was punishing him. Job continued to insist on his innocence. They continued to insist on his guilt. In the end, they found out the truth. Job found the answer to his question.
Job 42:5-6 “I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee. Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.” So when the mind truly acknowledges that the LORD is over all and is Almighty in person and deed, it is the beginning of wisdom. Wisdom leads us then to a deeper understanding of the LORD.
Another man is in scripture that had heard of the LORD. A father heard of the Lord Jesus and brought his son to Jesus for the child was tormented by a devil that caused him to behave irratically, to the point of throwing himself into the water to drowned or into the fire to burn. Jesus answered: Mark 9:23-24 “Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.”
That needs to be our prayer today. It is seldom that I find a person that has not heard about God and Jesus. But for many He is a fable or just a story told by religious old men. Like Job they have heard of him by the hearing of the ear, yet they simply do not believe it. The man in the story of Jesus had HEARD of Him by the hearing of the ear, but he did not KNOW him. He was wise enough to call out to God “.. .help thou mine unbelief.”
The very act of acknowleging Him is enough for God to send wisdom and understanding. Wisdom and Understanding give us a deeper belief. Scripture begin to make sense. We faith grows.
Here is some scripture that MUST make sense to you that people today struggle with. Lets look at what is called the Romans Road to Salvation. Here is five steps to understanding.
1. All Have Sinned: a. Romans 3:10 “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:” b. Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” 2. Jesus Died for Our sin: a. Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” b. Romans 5:12 “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:” 3. The Wages of Sin condemns us to die. a. Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
4. Yet God allows us to be Saved if we believe: a. Romans 10:9-10 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
5. Salvation come from Confessing and Believing, then asking God to have mercy on us: a. Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
If you have questions about Romans Road to Salvation or just questions about God in general, I would like to help you find the answers you seek. Remember the verse from Mark 9:24 – “And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief’ God will give you answers if you first acknowlege Him. Id love to help.
