Proverbs 22:20 “Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge.”
The term Excellence in Writing comes from the Scriptures, and it was adopted by the Institute for Excellence in Writing. They have developed a curriculum for Home School children that teaches the necessary qualities of good writing and sentence structure. There are certain qualities that most examples of good writing share. The following is a brief description of five qualities of good writing: focus, development, unity, coherence, and correctness. The qualities described here are especially important for academic and expository writing.
The Scriptures asks us a question… “Have I not written to thee excellent things?”
My answer is: Of Course! Yet many people, especially those who have not read the Bible will argue about it. They pull out some old rag of an argument that an atheist professor spoke about years before they were even born. Yet they cling to what he said, the statements he inferred, the criticism he spouted as if it was scripture itself.
Excellence in Councils is simply a morally excellent or admirable; virtuous; righteous. God in His wisdom gave to man all that is necessary for man to live in peace with man. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 11:14 “Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.”
Council is a very important part of life. As you have noticed, children come as a blank book. How they develop, the wisdom they have and the knowledge they are taught are what make them who they are or will become. Many great men and women came from humble backgrounds. As my Grandmother used to say, “They were raised right!”
There is a story told of Thomas Edison. In grade school his mother was called in to speak with his teacher. She came home with a smile and told him that the school had taught him all they could and she, having been a teacher herself, began to teach him at home. Years later he found the note from the teacher telling his mother that he did so poorly that she felt that he was disabled and could not learn. I think he proved them wrong.
Excellence in Knowledge is also simple: it is the fact of knowing about something; general understanding or familiarity with a subject, place, situation etc. the Excellence part tells us that it exceeds the normal understanding of man. We have that example given to us by the Hebrew children taken during the sacking of Israel. They were transported to Babylon to be council for Nebuchadnezzar, the king.
Daniel 1:19-20 “And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king. And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.”
Their Godly wisdom was Excellent compared to the wisdom and knowledge of the other king’s councilors; ten times better, in fact. They had knowledge from the Most High. They were taught through the scriptures and God guided their development when they made the decision to serve Him. True, the king used their talents, yet those very talents came from the blessing of God.
In today’s world, we can again gain wisdom and knowledge for what God had men write is still relevent as much today as it was 1,000’s of years ago. We can still learn from the words of God diligently recorded in Scripture. How do I know this?
2Peter 1:21 “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”
God, through His Holy Spirit, prompted men to write down the necessary wisdom and knowledge for man to live in harmony with man. I’ll ask you another question. How is the world doing without His wisdom and knowledge? Proverbs 16:7 “When a man’s ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.”
Do we live in a peaceful world? No? Then I know the reason and if you followed the logic of this writing, so do you.
