VIan cheerleader Kaylee LaMar got to fulfill her dream of cheerleading in college Wednesday morning as she signed a letter of intent with Connors State College in a signing ceremony at B.J. Traw Gymnasium.
“I’ve been cheering for six years now, and I always wanted to cheer in college, LaMar said. “To be given this opportunity is a blessing. God has really shown a lot of help in my life. He has been there for me and my dream of cheering in college, so this is a big step for me. I’m really excited for this.”
LaMar said it all started when a Connors State coach noticed her.
“I just have always had a passion for cheer,” she said. “One of the coaches recognized me for my cheer and my skills. I went to a practice and I connected with them immediately, so they’re a big part of me going over there. They’re really good teammates. They really showed me friendship and leadership. They really welcomed me to their cheer team.”
The senior cheerleader said there was one other school that showed interest in her.
“NSU did, but there was a lot of things that happened. So, I had moved myself away from that,” LaMar said. “I have always stuck with Connors State because they’ve been real good with communicating with me and showing that interest.”
