A woman with addresses in both Sallisaw and Vian is scheduled for a Feb. 19 felony disposition docket in Sequoyah County District Court on a charge of child abuse, according to court records.
Bronica Wilson, 34, was charged on Jan. 14, along with one count of domestic abuse – assault and battery, and received a $10,000 bond.
Vian Police officer David Garvin reported on Jan. 10 that he was dispatched to a domestic disturbance on W. Schley in Vian, possibly involving injury to a minor child.
Garvin and Officer Kaitlyn Sanders spoke with Wilson who said she’d allegedly been abused by a man and “was trying to leave the area to get away from him.”
When the officer asked about the alleged abuse of a child under the age of 8, Wilson said she’d thrown a can of food at the man, but it may have accidentally hit the child instead. The officer also noted that Wilson had a heavy odor of alcohol coming from her person and appeared to be under the influence.
When police spoke to the man at the residence, he claimed he was the one that called police after Wilson came home intoxicated, and he tried to get her to go to sleep. He alleged that Wilson struck him on the temple and then threw a can of soup at him. He said the can missed him but struck the child, according to the probable cause affidavit filed in the case. He also stated that Wilson had thrown food at three minor children who were inside the home.
The man gave the officer permission to have the child checked out by EMS, and Wilson was arrested and taken into custody. The child was transported to a local hospital for treatment and Wilson was transported to the Sequoyah County Detention Center where she was booked in on her charges.
