ALVA — Former Vian Wolverines softball player Kacie Gibbins and the Arkansas Tech University Golden Suns took two of three games from Great American Conference rival Northwestern Oklahoma State University over this past weekend.
On Saturday, the two teams split their doubleheader, with the Golden Suns taking the nightcap 13-11 after losing the opener 12-5.
The Golden Suns (108 overall, 2-1 in GAC play) won the rubber game of the series 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.
In Saturday’s win, Gibbins was 2-for-4 with a double, a run batted in and two runs scored in the nightcap after going 1-for-3 in the opener.
In Sunday’s victory, Gibbins went 1-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base.
Through 18 games, Gibbins is hitting .333 with six doubles, 14 RBIs, eight runs scored and four stolen bases.
Gibbins and the Golden Suns will continue conference play with three games against Southern Arkansas in Magnolia, Ark. — a single game at 5 p.m. this Friday and a 1 p.m. doubleheader this Saturday.
