The Gore Pirates, who were 12-13 for the 2024 season, will begin their 2025 baseball campaign this week.
The Pirates were supposed to open the season Monday night at home against Roland, but the game was canceled due to the Runnin’ Rangers basketball team in Friday night’s Class 3A Area Tournament title game in Seminole.
Weather permitting, the Pirates tried to get the season underway Tuesday afternoon at Vian. If that game was rained out, the season opener will be at 6 p.m. next Monday at home against Okay.
The Pirates will return 10 players from a season ago, with two of those being seniors — infielder Ayden Cox and outfielder Duane Hunt.
Juniors back are infielders/pitchers James Brassuel and Tate Brooksher along with infielder Waylon Gilley.
Outfielders Keiden Denton and Dane Gates and infielders Kyler McGee, Keeton Rowe and Cruz Ward round out the returning group of sophomores.
Rounding out the squad are junior infielder/ pitcher Gage Dame, freshmen infielders/pitchers Eli Munson and Mckinnon McElhaney and freshman infielder Kason Short.
“We have a strong core of juniors and sophomores, complemented by a solid group of seniors and freshmen,” said Gore baseball coach Tyler Lewis, who is beginning his third season at the helm. “We return seven everyday starters.”
