RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — Former Vian Lady Wolverines softball player Kacie Gibbins and the Arkansas Tech University Golden Suns took two of three weekend games from the University of Arkansas- Monticello at Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex.
The Golden Suns took both of Friday’s games — 9-1 in six innings and 5-3 — before losing Saturday’s game 7-4.
In Friday’s opener, Gibbins was 1-for-3 with a run scored and a run batted in.
In Friday’s nightcap, Gibbins was 2-for-4 with her first home run of the season, while going hitless in two at-bats but scoring once in Saturday’s contest.
Through 24 games, Gibbins is hitting .310 with six doubles, a solo homer, 16 RBIs, 12 runs scored and four stolen bases.
Gibbins and the Golden Suns (12-12 overall, 4-5 in Great American Conference play), after playing a road doubleheader Tuesday against Harding University in Searcy, Ark., will travel to Durant for a weekend road series against host Southeastern Oklahoma University — with a single 3 p.m. Friday game and a noon Saturday twinbill — before playing a 3 p.m. next Tuesday road doubleheader against Northeastern State in Tahlequah.
