The Gore Pirates baseball team began the season 2-0 last week with a pair of wins over Riverside Conference foes.
The Pirates, who had their original season opener rained out at Vian on March 4 after having the initial season opener March 3 against Roland canceled due to the Runnin’ Rangers being in the basketball playoffs, opened the season with a 9-1 win over Keota in Thursday’s home opener, then blanked Arkoma 11-0 on the road Friday afternoon.
In the win over Keota, the Pirates rallied from a 1-0 first-inning deficit with a five-run first inning and a two-run second inning for a 7-1 lead after two innings. Single runs in the fourth and fifth innings put the game into run-rule status.
For the game, James Brasuell was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs batted in and two runs scored, Kyler McGee singled with two RBIs and Duane Hunt had two RBIs for the Pirates.
Brasuell (1-0) got the win, going the first three innings with seven strikeouts. Gage Dame went the final two innings with six Ks. The duo combined on a nohitter.
In the victory over Arkoma, Tate Brooksher (1-0) pitched a threeinning no-hitter with nine strikeouts.
The Pirates scored once in the first inning, twice in the second inning and eight runs in the third inning, the latter rally put the game into run-rule status.
For the contest, Brasuell doubled with two RBIs and a run scored, Brooksher doubled with three RBIs, Keiden Denton doubled with two RBIs and a run scored and Kason Short doubled for Gore.
