Last week started as well as it could for the Vian Wolverines as they edged the Howe Lions 4-3 on March 31 at home before getting a 15-0, three-inning road win over county rival Central on April 1.
The rest of the week was won by Mother Nature as she washed out Thursday’s home game with Stilwell and Friday’s home three-way with Cameron and Okmulgee were all rained out. Vian coach John Brockman said that none of the games likely will be rescheduled.
In the win over Howe, the Wolverines (14-4) broke a 2-all, first-inning tie with single runs in the second and fifth innings for a 4-2 lead. The Lions scored once in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 4-3 but got no closer.
For the game, Michael Polecat was 3-for-4 with a run batted in and a run scored for Vian.
Polecat (3-2) got the win, going the first six innings with four strikeouts. Manny Terrill went the final inning with a strikeout to get his first save of the season.
In the victory over Central, Riley Ellis (2-0) got the win as he no-hit the Tigers as he struck out four batters in three innings.
The Wolverines scored four runs in the first inning and six runs in the second inning for a 10-0 lead. A fiverun third inning put the game into run-rule status.
For the game, Draighton Fletcher was 2-for-3 with his third home run of the season, three runs batted in and two runs scored, Drake Collins was 2-for-2 with his first homer of the season, three RBIs and two runs scored, Cash Collins hit his first homer of the season with three runs scored and two RBIs and Ellis hit his second homer of the season with two RBIs for Vian.
