The Webbers Falls Warriors suffered a 177, four-inning loss to the Okay Mustangs in the consolation title game of the Riverside Conference Baseball Tournament on Friday morning at Eual Carter Sports Complex.
The Warriors split their first two games of the tournament on Thursday in Gore, losing 24-17 in nine innings to Keota in the opening-round but routing Gans 18-0.
Last week got started for the Warriors by losing 12-2 at home on April 7 to Central, but they bounced back with a pair of home wins on April 8 — 10-4 over the host Braggs Wildcats and 10-0 in three innings over Cave Springs.
In the tournament consolation finals, the Warriors (9-11-1) jumped out to a 5-1 lead after an inning, but the Mustangs got three unearned runs in the second inning to cut their deficit to 5-4. After the Warriors upped their advantage to 6-4 after two innings, the Mustangs scored five runs in the third inning and eight runs in the fourth inning to take a 17-6 lead to put the game into run-rule status.
In defeat, Gunner Shelby was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a run batted in, while Elliott Kunkel hit his second home run of the season, a solo shot in the second inning, and had two RBIs for Webbers Falls.
Brutus Robinson (0-3) took the loss, going the first 2.2 innings with five strikeouts. Kunkel went the final 1.1 innings with a strikeout.
In the tournament consolation semifinals, the Warriors took control of the game early with the Grizzlies as they scored 11 runs in the opening inning and scored twice in the second inning for a 13-0 lead. A five-run third inning put the game into run-rule status.
For the contest, Shelby was 2-for-4 with a triple, four RBIs and two runs scored, Luke Pierce was 2-for-2 with three RBIs and a run scored, Hayden Stephens was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Kunkel doubled with two RBIs and two runs scored for Webbers Falls.
Ryan Cowan (3-2) got the win, going the first 2.2 innings with a strikeout. Robinson got the final out by strikeout.
In the tournament opener, after the Warriors scored seven runs in the seventh inning to tie the game at 16-all to force extra innings, the Lions scored eight runs in the ninth inning to take a 24-16 lead. The Warriors scored once in their half of the ninth inning, but their rally fell well short.
In defeat, Gunner Shelby was 4-for-6 with a double, four RBIs and two runs scored, Trysten Wilbourn was 3-for-6 with two runs scored and an RBI, Clayton Roberts was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI, Robinson was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored and Pierce was 2-for-6 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Shelby (1-2) took the loss in relief, pitching two innings with a strikeout. Cowan got the start and went the first three innings with four Ks. Wilbourn went the next 1.1 innings with a strikeout. Pierce got the next five outs, all by strikeout. Kunkel got the final three outs of the game.
In the win over Braggs, the Warriors had a 4-0 lead in the second inning, which became a 5-2 advantage in the third inning. After the ’Cats scored twice in the third inning to cut the deficit to 5-4, the Warriors put away the game with a five-run fourth inning.
For the contest, Pierce, Wilbourn and Caden McNamara each singled.
Wilbourn (3-0) got the win in relief as he pitched the most innings as he went the final three innings with five strikeouts. Cowan got the start and went the first two innings with two strikeouts.
In the victory over Cave Springs, the pitching duo of Pierce and Kunkel combined to nohit the Hornets.
Pierce (2-1) got the win, going the first two innings with four strikeouts. Kunkel pitched the final inning with three Ks.
The Warriors scored six runs in the first inning, then added a pair of two-run innings in the second and third innings to put the game into runrule status.
For the contest, Roberts was 2-for-2 with a double, two runs batted in and a run scored, while Wilbourn doubled with two RBIs and two runs scored for Webbers Falls.
In the loss to Central, the Tigers rallied from a 2-1 second-inning deficit with a three-run third inning to take the lead for good at 4-2. An eightrun fifth inning put the game into run-rule status.
In defeat, Kunkel was 2-for-2 with a run scored for the Warriors.
Robinson took the loss, going the first three innings with six strikeouts. Cowan went the next 1.1 innings with a strikeout. Pierce got the final two outs, one of which came by strikeout.
On Friday, the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association (OSSAA) awarded the Warriors one of 32 Class A, Division II District Tournaments as they will welcome the Hornets to town for the best-of-3 series April 24-26 at Eual Carter Sports Complex.
